A new generation of web browsers has arrived, promising to revolutionise how we interact with the internet. The appeal is undeniable: instant summaries, intelligent search, and a conversational partner to help you navigate the web.
However, this rapid innovation comes with significant, and perhaps overlooked, cybersecurity risks. The very technology that makes these browsers “smart” also introduces fundamental security flaws that we have not yet figured out how to solve. Before your organisation adopts these new tools, it is crucial to understand the dangers they may present.
The Fundamental Flaw: When Data Becomes a Command
The core issue lies in how Large Language Models (LLMs)—the technology powering these AI features—process information. To an AI, there is no functional difference between data (the text on a website you are visiting) and a command (an instruction you type into the prompt).
This ambiguity opens the door to a severe vulnerability known as prompt injection.
Imagine you are using an AI browser to make an online purchase. A malicious website could hide an invisible prompt in its code. When the AI processes the page, it reads this hidden instruction. This command could tell the AI to:

It is highly probable that they not only contain the new, complex AI vulnerabilities but also lack the mature security hardening of their established counterparts.
