Is TLS1.3 better than TLS1.2?

TLS (Transport Layer Security) is used to make the internet secure using encryption. It is the “s” in https. TLS1.3 is the successor to TLS1.2 and for good reasons.

TLS1.2 has been available for more than 22years and it has proven its use over this time but it has also shown its weaknesses as it contains many old encryption algorithms.

Also it has been discovered that TLS1.2 requires multiple steps to make a connection for every resource, which for websites with javascripts, images and videos all from different servers, requires new connections and this extra time makes it slower.

Learning from this, TLS1.3 was created. It removed all the old encryption algorithms and combined some of the connection steps to speed up the connection time.

TLS1.3 also includes some quantum secure encryption algorithms, ready for when the quantum computers “break standard encryption”.

So in short, TLS1.3 is more secure, faster and quantum future proofing (in theory).
