When you purchase networking equipment for your business, you place a large amount of trust into that vendor to protect your information and keep your business details and customer details safe. Unfortunately, we learned about another monumental data breach yesterday that will have a large impact on many people. Will the data breaches ever end?
Networking equipment and IoT device vendor Ubiquiti Networks, one of the biggest sellers of networking gear, including routers, webcams and mesh networks, sent notification emails on January 11, 2021, to its customers stating there had been a recent security data breach. You may know them as one of their product lines such as UniFi, EdgeMax, AirMax, AirFiber, and UFiber. All user profile’s stored information on account.ui.com
, a web portal that Ubiquiti makes available to customers who bought one of its products has been compromised. The site is used to manage devices from a remote location and as a help and support portal.
According to Ubiquiti, their servers that stored data on UI.com users, such as names, email addresses, and salted and hashed passwords were accessed and it is still unclear how many Ubiquiti users are impacted. Home addresses and phone numbers may have also been exposed. If you have an account.ui.com
or use any Ubiquiti products change your passwords and implement 2-factor authentication immediately.
If your business has been jeopardised, and your customer information exposed, containing the impacts of the breach quickly is critical. Vertex can assist with both the initial response and subsequent investigation to assess root cause and further impacts, including recommendations for strengthening Cyber Security defences.
