Ransomware by Numbers

Ransomware by Numbers-min

The cyber threat has continued to increase and ransomware attacks are on the rise. Ransomware is one of the largest threats to organisations, with reports from ACSC that there were nearly 500 ransomware attack reports received in 2020 to 2021, a 15% increase from the previous year.

For companies unprepared with backups and systems in place to securely maintain data, a ransomware attack can be catastrophic, locking access to the organisation’s networks, with data then being ransomed and/or stolen by the attackers.

Once a ransomware attack occurs, only 13% of companies surveyed said they were able to avoid paying the ransom following this kind of attack. With ransoms averaging US$100-500,000, compounded by the additional costs of remediation and lost revenue, this can be devastating for businesses.

One of several steps organisations can take to protect against these attacks is to maintain offline, encrypted backups that are updated regularly. If you’re ready to take the next step in securing your security infrastructure, contact us for a consultation or audit, where we will identify vulnerabilities and help to remediate your company’s cyber risk.
